Grand Canyon 1965

Sandy and I took a backpack trip through the Grand Canyon in 1965 over the winter break. We went down the Hermit canyon trail and back up the Kaibab trail - one of the trails used by most of the public. It was cold which is better than hot. The water running down side canyons was frozen in the morning and rather pretty. Hermit canyon has an old mining camp which we stayed at the first night.

The old mining camp in Hermit Canyon. We did not go into the shaft.

The redwall is limestone. These cave structures probably came from the water which seeped down from the redwall.
