The summit of Matthes Crest.
Tuolumne Triple
Tuolumne Triple

Climbing Tanaya Peak, Matthes Crest and Cathedral Peak, the Tuolumne Triple Crown, in a (long) day.
On the way to Yosemite I camped at Gilbert’s pass on Highway 168. In the morning, I took a quick hike up the hill next to the pass while drinking my coffee.
Pretty boring landscape, but every time I've driven by I still want to explore it.
I didn’t want to risk towing the trailer down this dirt road, but camping next to the highway was still pretty quiet.
Tan and I did a quick hike up Crystal Crag near Mammoth. We were going to solo it right at sunset, but there were three groups already on the route.
We set off at about 6am and were soon heading up the side of Tenaya.

Time to put on climbing shoes.
Looking up the slabby but easy climbing up Tenaya Peak.
Here comes the sun.
While this section was steeper, it was actually a bit easier than the lower slabby parts below it.
The end of the climbing on Tenaya and just a little bit of rock hopping to the peak.

Blurry, crocked summit selfie. Yay!
Couple of cool looking rocks in the distance.
Kurt looking for a good spot to do a hand stand.
Tuolumne is pretty cool.
Alex, Kurt and Tan on the fin on Matthes Crest with hundreds of feet down on each side.
Aww, those shadows look pretty ... pretty long! Yea, we’re about to get benighted.
Kurt and I added some extra mileage because we ran out of water and needed to head to this lake to fill up.
The top of Cathedral Peak ... at midnight. Yay!
Got back to my trailer in Mammoth Lakes at about 5am. I left this luggage door cracked open for extra air and this smudge caught my eye in the morning. Bear print? hmmm.
