Thunderbolt Peak Night Hike

Thunderbolt is the most technical of the California 14,000 foot peaks, but only because of the last 15 or so feet. My first time trying it almost 20 years ago, I made it to those last feet but decided not to climb them. At 5.9, the moves were well within my ability, but solo at altitude in the cold and wind I wasn't 100% certain.  >>

Interstate camping: I15 at Halloran Summit

I had planned a week long trip to the Grand Canyon, but as shifting priorities shrunk the time I had to five days and then four I realized I didn't really want to burn tons of gas money for a rushed trip to a crowded place I've already seen a few times. Instead, how about I take my time heading back to Los Angeles from Las Vegas and explore the trash-filled desert along I15!  >>
